Our Practice
Principles That
Govern Our Practice
As an internist and anesthesiologist, Dr. Bhalla spent 20 years taking care of some of the sickest patients in emergency rooms, ICUs, operating rooms, and clinics. During this time, he was invigorated by the concept of switching the emphasis from "sick care" to a health care model based on prevention and being proactive. Inspired by the potential for using medicine in its most potent form, Dr. Bhalla founded Indigo Health M.D. Using preventive measures such as daily herbs and supplements, fostering active discussions about Paleo, Keto, and vegan diets as applied to particular lifestyles, and adding fasting programs to the patient's plan can lead to better outcomes and increased longevity. At Indigo Health M.D., we pride ourselves on expanding our consciousness to operate from a basis of proactive prevention.
Conventional physician practices often require the provider to see a large number of patients in a very short time, potentially creating a frustrated patient who feels the physician does not have time to listen. In the previous model, Dr. Bhalla treated 23 or more patients a day - for 8-12 minutes each. He "felt like a short-order cook rather than a well-trained medical doctor." At Indigo Health M.D., time is no longer such a constraint. By seeing significantly fewer patients each day, our physician can spend 50% to 75% more time to explore many more potential solutions, based on individual needs. You will enjoy extended, relaxed visits in which more time will be spent, taking the traditional time of 8 to 12 minutes and extending it out to 20 to 30 minutes for general office visits.
Occam's razor theorem states that the simplest solution is generally the best. In other words, let's not get complicated when an elegant, straightforward solution will serve the purpose. Medically speaking, this means we will consult Mother Nature for therapies including food and natural supplements before considering pharmaceutical options. For example, anxiety and depression may be quelled by simply transforming gut bacteria. In fact, many gut disorders can be eliminated by changing what we put into the body, a major factor in what kind of bacteria - "goods" vs. "bad" - breed in our gut. Dr. Bhalla spends time creating effective solutions that allow less dependence on medications and unnecessary procedures. Whenever possible, we keep it simple by relying more on Mother Nature. Sometimes an apple a day can keep the doctor away!
Many years ago, Dr. Bhalla experienced a medical complication that caused severe dysfunction. He was on the brink of quitting medical school, a crisis intensified by a provider who flatly stated that nothing could be done to correct the problem. Left with little hope, Dr. Bhalla considered leaving medical school. He says now that if not for his wife's faith and encouragement, medical school would have "fossilized as a distant memory." With engines blazing, visiting 12 physicians in seven states, he found a dedicated doctor who remedied his situation through hopeful discussions regarding treatment, advanced scientific knowledge, and technological expertise. This particular physician imprinted on Dr. Bhalla the necessity of providing scientific expertise combined with hope and faith; concepts deeply woven throughout the fabric of patient care at Indigo Health M.D.
Dr. Bhalla strongly emphasizes intuitive decision making, utilizing many informed decision points in assessing patient needs. Data garnered from labs, imaging, and other testing definitely have their place in modern medicine. However, casual use or the absence of deep thought can result in poor outcomes and dissatisfied patients. Indigo Health M.D. crafts personalized plans for the patient by combining the sensible use of data and tests with deep, intuitive awareness for the patient's values and goals. Dr. Bhalla's 20 years of experience throughout the medical field, ranging from the emergency room to the operating room, including cancer wards, cardiac, and interventional radiology, offer deep, intuitive, personalized decision-making from broad perspective and experience.

You cannot connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So, you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.
